Genius, but if you’re feeling more adventurous, try this.

I can think back to only a handful of times in my life when music moves you in a completely unexpected way, beyond  the normal bounds of what you can be understood in terms of groove, pace, sound or cultural preference. Coltrane has been there on at least two of those occasions. Wikipedia biog is pretty good, as is the official site, but the music goes beyond everything….

Puttnam lecture

Affable old film maker and latterly Labour peer specialising in education policy gave a good lecture last night at the National Museum, entitled  ‘ We are the people we’ve been waiting for: the changing role of teaching and teachers in the 21st century‘ , which started off as a meander through his own journey, but actually ended up being a gentle but effective critique of the political system and its managerialist tendencies at present.
